IMessages appear in blue bubbles on your iPhone while text messages appear in green ones. But that only happens so you can tell the difference between them. There’s more going on beneath the surface.
You may have noticed that some messages in iPhone’s Message app are green, while some are blue. What do those colors mean and does it even matter? Messages with green bubbles are normal SMS text messages. Message with blue bubbles are sent via the iMessage instant messaging protocol—a messaging platform specific to Apple devices.

iMessages are texts, photos, or videos that you send to another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac over Wi-Fi or cellular-data networks. These messages are always encrypted and appear in blue text bubbles. To turn iMessage on or off, go to Settings > Messages.

A text message is sent the moment you push sent. Green light, blue light, crappy color light means nothing. The message is sent. Will be received depending factors like internet connection, phone on/off among other things the internet has its flaws like the crap app you are using for sending text. With the iPhone you have iMessage and when you send a message to another iPhone user, the conversation will show as blue. As long as the message is blue it means that the texts you are sending and receiving are not counted towards your Verizon wireless message plan.

SMS/MMS

If you aren’t using iMessage, you can use SMS/MMS. These messages are texts and photos that you send to other cell phones or another iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. SMS/MMS messages aren't encrypted and appear in green text bubbles on your device.

To use SMS/MMS on an iPhone, you need a text-messaging plan. Contact your wireless carrier for more information. You can also set up your other Apple devices to send and receive messages from any Apple device.
